Koru creates stories that blend music, dialogue, dance and song into a total theatre.

Our stories are based on myths, legends and classical stories, reworked for today. We draw our inspiration from diverse sources around the Pacific Ocean: New Zealand Maori traditions, Pacific and Australian aboriginal culture, and the great theatre traditions of Indonesia, China and Japan.

At the heart of our work is the physical power of the actor. Our artists, from around the world, are highly skilled professionals, and we develop each production through a rigorous process of research and experiment. Our leader, Ken Rea is an expert on Pacific theatre cultures and a master teacher, having nurtured some of Britain's most exciting young stars of stage and screen. Drawing on his wide experience, Ken's vision for Koru is to create a vibrant theatre for Europe through the traditions of the Pacific.

We are also committed to sharing our passion and skills with the communities where we work. Through our year-round education and outreach programme we help build new audiences, while opening the imagination of young people and giving them confidence in their identity and creative power.

Koru is based in Ealing, West London, but our shows are available for touring throughout Britain and abroad. We usually work in small theatres with a capacity of between 100 and 250. For details of forthcoming productions, contact our company manager Lyn Burgess.
